Steve and IceChex - I got a call from Ashley Kelly earlier today and she was over at the stadium that the Charlotte Knights call home. Why was Ash at the baseball stadium at such an early morning hour? She is participating in a promotion, entitled, Standing Room Only, which entails being the last person standing in order to win . . .well, as Ashley says, the prize is not the point. The point? Well, I just haven't figured it out, but it seems to be finding a new and different way to pass some time. Seems she went to the game last night and is likely to still be on the field for this afternoon's game. At 9:30 a.m., Ash had made it through the night and was one of the two people still in competition. Film at 11, I'm sure.

The prize. . .a new bedroom set. I know baseball, when compared to hockey seems like a sleeper to some of us, but really! Well, I guess it is one thing to do during the Silly Season in Charlotte.

What a strage promotion. I hadn't heard anything about it. But I guess if it seems like a "sleeper" then a bedroom suite is an appropriate prize! :thumb:

Wow, that's terrific. Hopefully she'll endure long enough to win. Congratulations to her. But she's not actually standing on the field, is she? That might make playing the game a bit difficult.

Just heard from our champion - after a little over 20 hours, Ash walks, or perhaps crawl away as the victor. She turned around and sold the prize to her competitor - after all, she did say it wasn't about the prize. She got to throw out the first pitch for the game, before returning to her "post' and I guess they weren't "on' the field, as the contest didn't finish until almost the end of the afternoon game. Look for the champs' photos on the Knights' website soon.

The competition started at 8:30 Saturday night and ended right around 5:30 Sunday afternoon--I won the bedroom set at just about the same time the Knights won the game! At around 1:00 yesterday the promotions guys informed us that there was some betting going on in the locker room--the players were placing bets on who would end up winning the competition. There was no way I was going to lose once I heard that.

And Deb wonders what the point of all this was....So do I actually. To begin with I just thought it would be fun to try--and fully intended to leave once a few people dropped out--but then I saw who I was competing against and knew I had to at least make the top two. And then I really was going to leave. But then it happened--the promotions guys told me there was no way I would win and that I wouldn't make it til 5:00 Sunday morning. So of course there was no way I could leave without winning at that point. They think I'm stubborn.

But it was fun--a new rather odd way of making friends. And I got to throw the first pitch at a baseball game. Not a bad weekend.
