CHECKERS MAINTAIN POSSESSION OF FIFTH PLACE SPLITTING THE WEEK AT 1-1
CHARLOTTE, NC – The Charlotte Checkers split the week at 1-1 with a 2-1 loss at Augusta and a 5-4 overtime victory against Florida at home on Sunday. Daymen Rycroft scored the lone goal for the Checkers against the Lynx and goaltender, Chris Holt took the loss stopping 29 of 31 shots on goal. Sunday, the Checkers rebounded with a victory over the first place ranked Everblades. Jan Vodrazka, Dan Murphy, Daymen Rycroft and Bruce Graham all had single goals for the Checkers, and Mark Lee had the game winning goal at 4:35 in the overtime period. Chris Holt took the win for the Checkers with 35 saves in his twelfth consecutive start.
The Checkers picked up two new players last week. Mike Dryer is a forward from Fitchburg State making his professional hockey debut with the Checkers. The other newcomer is a defenseman, Hannu Pikkarainen who notched 2 assists on Sunday with the Checkers.

SALUTE TO HEROES

The Charlotte Checkers will be holding their 2nd annual Salute to Heroes on
March 11th, at 4pm when the team takes on the Gwinnett Gladiators at
Charlotte Bobcats Arena the club announced today.

The Charlotte Fire Department, MEDIC 911, CMPD and Sheriff's Office are
joining forces to help raise money for scholarship programs and benefit
families from each organization. The event will feature a special opening
ceremony, Heroes hockey compiled of players from each group following the
Checkers Game. All of the jerseys worn by the two competing teams in the
Heroes game will be auctioned off following the game. The evening will be
capped off by the Checkers traditional Sunday post game skate. In addition
to Checkers players, Fireman, Policeman, Medics and Sheriffs will be on hand
to skate with the fans.


HOCKEY 101

The Charlotte Checkers will be offering a Hockey 101 session with head coach
Derek Wilkinson and players. Hockey 101 will begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday,
March 17. Each participant will join the staff and players for a private
player demonstration, interactive classroom lecture of hockey and lunch will
be provided during the event.

Hockey 101 will review the basic strategies of offense and defense, rules of
the game, power plays and fundamental terminology. The Charlotte Checker's
practice will begin at 10 a.m., followed by a locker room tour, classroom
session and lunch.

The event will be held at the Charlotte Bobcats Arena and the cost is $40
per person. Each participant will receive a t-shirt and a ticket for the
Checkers game beginning at 7:30 p.m. that night. Season ticket holders who
participate in Hockey 101 will receive a free buddy pass to utilize at that
game night or at a future game.

CHARITY CASE TO PERFORM POST-GAME CONCERT MARCH 17
Checkers to Donate Portion of Ticket Sales to Ace & TJ's Grin Kids

The Charlotte Checkers announce that Charity Case will play a post-game
concert on Saturday, March 17 after the Checkers host the Florida Everblades
at Charlotte Bobcats Arena. Admission to the concert is free to those with
a ticket to that night's game.

Debuting in 2001, Charity Case made a commitment to raise funds for Ace &
TJ's Grin Kids - a charity organization started by the top-rated Ace & TJ
morning-drive radio show on Kiss 95.1 FM from 6:00-10:00 a.m. EST.

The Checkers will donate $6 from each Premium and Attack Zone ticket, and $5
from each Terrace ticket, sold through the team's website using the Promo
Code "GRIN" to Ace & TJ's Grin Kids.

Ace & TJ's Grin Kids is a 501(c)3 which benefits children who are terminally
ill and chronically disabled, ages five to twelve, in the listening area.
Along with an auction and other fund-raising events each year, Grin Kids
pays for children, their parents and their siblings to go to Disney World.
All expenses are covered including the charter flight, hotel, park passes,
meal coupons and Disney Dollars. Charity Case is the largest source of
income for the Grin Kids program. For more information on Charity Case and

The first 2,000 fans to the March 17 game will receive a Checkers logo cap
courtesy of RoadRunner High Speed Online Service. The Checkers will also be
