CHECKERS CLAIM LINDSAY FROM PENSACOLA; PIKKARAINEN ASSIGNED TO HARTFORD

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Charlotte Checkers announced today the team has claimed goaltender Evan Lindsay from the Pensacola Ice Pilots. Defenseman Hannu Pikkarainen was reassigned by the New York Rangers to the Hartford Wolf Pack of the American Hockey League.
Lindsay, 26, has appeared in nine games with the Ice Pilots this season with a record of 0-7-1. He has 6-foot-2-inch, 198-pounder has played six professional seasons after playing five seasons in the WHL. Last season he appeared in 48 games with the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees of the CHL. He had a record of 25-18-4 with a .922 save percentage and 4.22 goals against average.

Pikkarainen has played in 10 ECHL games with the Checkers, registering two goals and seven assists for nine points, along with 10 penalty minutes. That included a two-goal, two-assist performance in a 6-1 win March 17th vs. Florida. A 23-year-old native of Helsinki, Finland, Pikkarainen signed as a free agent with the parent New York Rangers August 18, 2005. Prior to making his North American pro debut with Charlotte February 25th at South Carolina, the 6-1, 197-pound blueliner had been out of action since being injured in a pre-training camp rookie tournament.

The Checkers are trying to reach the postseason for the third-consecutive season for the first time since the team did it from 1995-1998.
