Checkers Press Release
CHECKERS AGREE TO TERMS WITH VINZ
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – General manager and head coach of the Charlotte Checkers, Derek Wilkinson, announced today that last season’s late edition, Shawn Vinz, has agreed to terms with the club.
The Rochester, Minn. native played in six regular season and five playoff games for the Checkers last year after the culmination of his collegiate career at the University of New Hampshire. During his career with the Wildcats, Vinz played 101 games collecting four goals, six assists for 10 points while amassing 75 penalty minutes. He said the transition between college and professional hockey was a smooth one because of his Checkers teammates, “The guys made me feel very comfortable. It was great to be out of school and playing in a terrific city like Charlotte. I am looking forward to coming back.”
Wilkinson says that Vinz possesses the essential characteristics he is always on the lookout for in a player, “Shawn is a very intelligent and energetic player who was key to our late-season push last year.”
Vinz will attend the Hartford Wolf Pack of the American Hockey League training camp.
