The Charlotte Checkers re-signed winger Dusty Jamieson, the second-leading goal scorer in team history who missed most of last season with a serious concussion.

Jamieson, 26, had 10 goals and eight assists in 18 games. He had hat tricks in the first two games, but a concussion on Dec. 7 shelved him until the final game of the regular season. Jamieson returned, and had one goal in two playoff games.

Jamieson, beginning his sixth season with Charlotte, has led the team in goals four times and in scoring twice.

"If I didn't think we could win a championship, I wouldn't come back," he said. "With the veteran guys that coach (Derek Wilkinson) has brought in, this season should be great. Not only is this team going to be comprised of great hockey players, but great character guys as well -- and that's what it takes to win a championship."

Jamieson's 122 goals (in 245 games) are second to franchise leader Darryl Noren's 174.

• The Checkers will open the exhibition season on the road against the South Carolina Stingrays, 7 p.m. Oct. 12. They host the Columbia Inferno at 1:30 p.m. Oct. 13 at the Extreme Ice Center in Indian Trail.
