CHARLOTTE JUNIOR CHECKERS KICK OFF 2007-08 SEASON
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – On Thursday, August 30th at 7:00 p.m., Charlotte Youth Hockey (CYH) will proudly announce the area’s youth hockey travel teams (the Charlotte Junior Checkers) for the 2007-08 season.
170 players, ranging in age from seven to 18, have been selected to form 10 separate teams to represent Charlotte, the CYH and the Carolina Hockey League (CHL) at numerous tournaments and league games for the next seven months.
Teams will be announced during a celebratory National Hockey League-like “draft” reception presided by the mascot for the Charlotte Checkers, Chubby, and numerous Charlotte hockey executives at the Extreme Ice Center in Indian Trail, the official practice facility for the Charlotte Checkers and home-ice for the Charlotte Junior Checkers. Checkers players will also be on hand.
This season, the Charlotte Junior Checkers will compete in league games and tournaments in Charleston, Atlanta, Raleigh, Wilmington, Greensboro and in Florida, West Virginia, Ohio, Georgia, Tennessee and Pennsylvania.
Checkers president, Jeff Longo, spoke about his enthusiasm for youth hockey in Charlotte, “The Charlotte Checkers are pleased to support CYH and to rally around the Junior Checkers in an ongoing promotion of this exciting sport at both the youth and professional levels for the great city of Charlotte.”
