We all guess what each game's results will be (score, winning team, GWG), and then we get points if any portion thereof is correct. :) Winner at the end gets bragging rights as the main prize!

The contest IS on again this year. Since you brought this up, now would be a good time to discuss suggestions regarding scoring:

I will say that for games that are determined by shootouts, there should be no GWG declared for that game.

I have seen other suggestions as follows:

1 point - correct score (of BOTH teams)
1 point - correct winner
3 points - correct score and winner.
5 points - correct GWG scorer

This just makes those who pick the correct score to be equal to those who pick the correct winner. It also makes those who pick the score and winner equal to those who pick the GWG scorer. If you get them all right, well then you get all the points.

Major change:

In order to address the problem of latecomers feeling unable to catch up and therefore not bothering to enter or those who are behind and lose interest, how about:

Using a point/pick system whereby the leader is determined by the total number of points divided by the total number of picks. For instance, 17 points in 5 picks is 3.4 while 31 points in 10 picks is 3.1.

To maintain some sort of integrity there will be a requirement of a minimum of 37 picks (one more than half the season) to qualify for the championship.

1. Why would a Lions fan need a gun? Even if they fired it they wouldn't hit anything.
2. I will dust off the spreadsheet to review scoring and try to jog my memory on the things we tossed around last year.
3. If we're going to do an average, we need to vote on it. I vote yes. The only downfall to this is that people who may be locked into a position near the end can not play if it won't affect their standing.
4. I also vote yes to keeping the GWG in a shootout. We're not scoring the game for the league, we're scoring a contest for fans. That's just MHO.
5. I like the suggestion of giving 3 pts for picking the winner and both teams' scores. (last year it was a 2 pt bonus)

2. You didn't like the whole scoring structure. The suggestion above takes away the points possible for getting 1 team's score right, win or lose. For all the scoring, etc. I think y'all should vote on it. Whatever y'all decide on should be fair to all players.
3. We could do a couple of things in that case. We could give a prize for best percentage and for most points. Since it's my money, I'll have to think about that though. ;) I want people who may join in later in the season to still have some sort of chance to win something, you know? However, at the same time, that option should probably be limited to when they arrived on the board during the season. Those who have an opportunity to play, should be playing as soon as the opportunity is presented.

Everyone please chime in with your suggestions. I want to make this fun for all to play and at the same time, not require a masters degree to figure out the scoring. Once we narrow some ideas down, we can put it up for a vote in some polls (as necessary).

I like the average idea - très cool... I also like the no gwg in a shootout, unless you count the person who actually gets the final shootout goal that makes the win (i.e. - the gwg)...

haha, I actually like the game b/c it gives me something to look forward to sometimes even when we're loosing by 7 points. Plus I almost won last time but got edged out at the very end!

I like how we did it last year. Whatever you guys pick im fine with it. What about taking your best 60 games or something like that so that if you miss a game or two it wont be as big of a deal. That would help out the people who comein late and still reward the people who do it all year as they would have a better chance of getting more points

Everything sounds good to me. I was just thinking that maybe we could do 1 point for each part of the correct score?

Example:
Actual Result: 3-2 Checkers win

If you guessed 3-1, you get 1 point
If you guessed 0-2, you get 1 point
If you get both right, you get 2 or 3 points.

Just offering a suggestion, you can take it or leave it, either way works for me. :thumb:

Here are examples, assuming the player got all correct.

Last year:
3-2 Checkers Bellefeuille
4 pts Checkers
4 pts correct score (2 for each team's score)
2 pts bonus for getting scores and team
5 pts Bellefeuille
Total: 15 pts

This year's proposal:
3-2 Checkers Kyrzakos
1 pt Checkers
1 pt total correct score
3 pt bonus for getting scores and team
5 pts Kyrzakos
Total: 10 pts

What this does is allows those who get the score and winning team correct to be even with the people who just got the GWG scorer right. I will say this: I liked it better when you got points for each team's score. So here is what I propose to remedy this:
1 pt winning team's score correct
1 pt losing team's score correct
1 pt winning team
2 pt bonus for all of it
This would still even up the GWG and total score. What do the playas think?

I like the new proposal. I also like the points/picks method, since the reason I dropped out last year was that I missed too many games when I went on vacation to keep up with Bino, et al.

OK, as the admin and the one who's footing the "bill" for all this fun:

Based on the general approval of the members I am now hereby decreeing that the latest proposal by possum is the new official scoring method. And, there will be a GWG from shootouts, much to my chagrin. I will update the rules in the post from last year and I will also be creating a new forum for all the Contest posts to go into.
