It only took me a year of badgering my wife (a photo editor at the CO), but The Observer sent a photographer to last night's game (4/9 - Game 3 vs. Toledo). Jeff Siner was the photographer and he got some really great photos.

Checkers Photos - Game 3 vs. Toledo (4/9/10) by Jeff Siner - The Charlotte Observer (http://www.charlotteobserver.com/2010/04/09/1367970/charlotte-checkers-3-toledo-walleye.html)

As you have no doubt read or heard, the Observer has drastically cut its staff over the last couple of years -- so, sending a photographer to cover any event is a carefully weighed decision. I think it would be great if the Checkers got more coverage, and the best way for that to happen is for people to look at the photos, and read the stories when they do appear.

So, click on the link above, send it to friends, post it on Facebook, then click on it again a few times. If the Observer knows something generates interest, they'll cover it more.

Plus, like I said before -- these photos are pretty great!

Enjoy.

I happen to know Jeff Siner, he's a great photographer, really dedicated. Even if he doesn't know the sport he's shooting, he still puts up some great shots.

Well, if that's the case, I shoot some of the games and I would be glad to submit some of my photos if they would publish them. In fact, if they would like for me to be a volunteer photographer to cover ever game, I would do so...gratis.

I respectfully submit that they should be well aware of the interest in the Checkers in this town. I also submit that if they would cover the team as it deserves to be, there would be more interest in the team because of the exposure, as well as more interest in their paper. A lot of us refuse to subscribe the them until they give us more coverage. We have voiced our opinions to them repeatedly and they refuse to give it to us. They have now responded by cutting our beat reporter. So, if they want to turn things around, then they need to give us more coverage--ESPECIALLY next season when we are in the A.

GREAT photos! Thanks for posting the link. :thumb: If your wife would like to see my work, I can arrange that.

The Observer did a halfway decent article regarding yesterday's game. It may not be on the front page of the site, but it is on the front page of the sports section part of the site. Please go click on http://www.charlotteobserver.com/2010/04/12/1371589/checkers-finish-toledo-series.html

The more interest they havem the more they will cover. Click "Recommend." That will put it on the front page.
